Product Overview
Malvern OMNISEC is the top-of- the-range multi-detector gel-permeation/size- exclusion chromatography (GPC/SEC) system. It is a complete solution for the molecular characterisation of synthetic polymers, natural polymers and polysaccharides, and proteins. It combines refractive index,UV/Vis absorbance, light scattering and viscometer detectors to measure concentration, molecular weight and intrinsic viscosity with unparalleled sensitivity and accuracy. The system is available as a detector-only option, which can be connected to any third party GPC/SEC system. Alternatively, it forms part of a complete OMNISEC GPC/SEC system.
The complete integrated OMNISEC solution is made up of 3 components: OMNISEC Resolve, OMNISEC Reveal and OMNISEC software.
OMNISEC Resolve has been designed using more than 30 years of experience in GPC/SEC to achieve the highest possible standard in performance. The efficient degasser, low pulsation pump, large column oven and temperature controlled autosampler (4-60°C) with zero injection volume overheads combine to give reduced baseline noise and improved stability to maximise sensitivity and accuracy.
OMNISEC Reveal is the most advanced integrated multi detector platform for superior GPC/SEC analysis. It includes refractive index (RI), UV/Vis absorbance, light scattering and intrinsic viscosity detectors. The superior sensitivity of the light scattering detector makes it ideal for measuring low volume samples with low dn/dc, while the 18µl flow cell minimises band broadening. A self-balancing viscometer with user exchangeable capillaries provides simple automatic setup and improves robustness.
OMNISEC software v10 has been designed to make SEC/GPC analysis as easy as possible. The software reduces training requirements for new users by guiding the user through setup, data acquisition and analysis in an intuitive workflow. With just 1-click from data to results, the user can quickly overlay multiple injections and present data in simple and customised reports.

Benefits
Ease of use and versatility
The complete multidetector OMNISEC system provides advanced GPC/SEC analysis for the characterisation of proteins, polymers and polysaccharides. Users can also easily upgrade existing GPC/SEC systems to more advanced setups. Measure concentration, absolute molecualr weight, polydispersity, molecular size, structure, dn/dc, and more …
Greater understanding through multidetection
Properties such as hydrodynamic radius (Rh), radius of gyration (Rg) and Mark Houwink parameters can quickly be determined by combining the results from each of the four detectors (UV-Vis, RI, Viscometer and Light scattering) delivering a complete set of data for each sample.
Most sensitive detector on the market
Unmatched multi detector system provides superior GPC/SEC data quality. The unique light scattering detector enables measurments of molecular weights as low as 200Da, injection masses as low as 100ng of material and samples with low dn/dc.
Unrivalled stability
Integrated design keeps all detectors and columns in one comparment which means tubing is minimised leading to reduced band broadening and improved baseline stability. A self-balancing viscometer with user exchangeable capillaries provides simple automatic setup and improves robustness.
Intuitive software
The new OMNISEC v10 supports the power of advanced detection, reduces workloads and improves productivity. This workflow based software enables greater efficiency from system control to analysis.
Applications
- Control strength, toughness, durability, brittleness, processability and branching of polymers
- Measure degradation and drug delivery rates of PLA, PLGA, PEG, polycaprolocatone
- Grade natural polymers and polysaccharides like alginates, chitosan and hyaluronic acid
- Control formulation viscosity of acrylics, polyurethanes, resins and epoxys
- Control food mouth-feel and gelling of polysaccharides
- Assess and predict activity by measuring molecular weight of proteins and antibodies
- Predict and understand immunogenicity and efficacy of protein aggregates
- Control half-life, cell permeability and understand crystallisation of protein conjugates
Accessories
Viscotek SEC-MALS 20 Detector for superior multi angle light scattering
The Viscotek SEC-MALS 20 is a multi angle light scattering detector that can be used to measure the absolute molecular weight and oligomeric state of proteins, synthetic and natural polymers, as well as molecular size expressed as the radius of gyration, Rg. The Viscotek SEC-MALS 20 offers upto 20 angles with more sensitive low angle detectors to improve accuracy. A unique vertical flow cell with advanced radial optics ensures optimum performance. The SEC-MALS 20 can be used with any existing SEC system or be purchased as part of a complete system package.
