Malvern Insitec systems provide continuous particle size analysis for monitoring and controlling industrial processes. These robust analysers use light scattering (laser diffraction) to measure particles in the size range 0.1 to 2500 µm. They are suitable for a wide variety of process streams such as dry powders, slurries, sprays and emulsions. Material quantities can range from milligrams to tonnes per hour. Sampling from the process stream ranges from manual at-line systems to fully automated on-line continuous monitoring.

Insitec Dry delivers real-time size measurement of particulates in continuous and batch processes having pneumatic or gravity-fed streams. They are used to monitor and control processes ranging from bulk powders, to foods, fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Complete size distributions are measured in less than one second, so that fast processes can be tracked.

Process interfaces are customised to ensure representative sampling. However in many process streams the particle concentration can vary. Any concentration dependent effect is corrected mathematically by patented multiple scattering algorithms. This ensures that measurements are reliable and independent of sample concentration. Insitec systems are designed for the process environment with watertight and dustproof protection rating IP65 and IP66.

Malvern Link II software integrates with the existing plant control system. It enables the operation of the analyser by either a dedicated PC or by remote control. The measurement data is presented in a clear and understandable way. Complete particle size distributions are measured so that data output can be selected for the size fraction of interest such as, fines, the 3 to 30 micron fraction or the 200+ microns fraction.
