The Cellbox portable CO2 incubator allows the transport of fragile and valuable cells from local university campuses to other cities or even other countries around the world.

Choice of two models:

  • Cellbox Shipper Ground, is the first cell shipping CO2 incubator that provides lab-like incubation conditions during transport – by road, rail or sea.  With an integrated rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack and a CO2 conditioning system that relies on disposable CO2 cartridges, the device is simple to use.
  • Cellbox Shipper Flight, is a cell shipping CO2 incubator with IATA compliance. It provides lab-like incubation conditions during transport – by road, rail, sea and even air. Cellbox Shipper is completely self-sufficient, with an integrated rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack and a CO2 conditioning system that relies on dry-ice sublimation.

The Cellbox prevents losses in cell quality, cell viability and valuable time introduced by freeze-thaw cycles that are a routine part of cryogenic shipping. Data logs of the internal conditions are continuously collected and can easily be exported to a smart device (iOs and Android) with Bluetooth connectivity using our Cellbox App.

Specially developed for the transport of sensitive cells and cell cultures, the Cellbox is ideal for:

  • iPSC’s and iPSC-derived cells, such as sensory neurons, microglia and cardiomyocytes. Cells can be transported under laboratory conditions, in the Cellbox while avoiding unwanted changes in metabolism, gene expression and protein profiles.
  • Long-term cell storage and biobanks can benefit from receiving fresh material and performing the cryopreservation in-house. Recipients can benefit from the Cellbox by receiving thawed and recovered cells from a biobank, ready-to-use.
  • Lab-on-a-Chip or Tissue-on-a-Chip products can be seeded with living cells before shipping under laboratory conditions in the Cellbox.

What is Cellbox?

Cellbox is a portable incubator with warm chain logistics technology that enables transport of sensitive cells at physiological temperatures rather than freezing, preserving cell quality while eliminating costly freezing/thawing protocols. It offers a CO2 regulation system and comprehensive data logging in two versions: a heavier shipper for long-distance applications with 48-hour battery runtime, and the lighter Cellbox Go with 12-hour battery runtime featuring easily exchangeable batteries.

How can Cellbox save time and money?

While initial transport costs are similar between cryopreservation and Cellbox, the elimination of freezing/thawing protocols saves significant time and manpower, especially valuable in GMP environments. Given Cryopreservation is notoriously damaging to cells, Cellbox is superior with cell survival.

Why should I use Cellbox over conventional transport methods?

Cellbox offers significant advantages over conventional transport methods with freezing and thawing cycles, which prolong processing time. It enables direct quality checks by allowing cells to be placed directly in an incubator rather than requiring freezing. Cells proliferate during transport and are ready immediately upon arrival.

Can Cellbox be used for clinical trials and cell therapies?

Yes. Cellbox is uniquely suited for cell therapies and clinical trials. It enables decentralisation of multicentric trials, which is particularly valuable for overcoming patient recruitment obstacles across multiple locations.

Can I have a demonstration or free trial of the Cellbox?

Yes. We can offer free trial use of the Cellbox to demonstrate its long-term value and how it helps reduce costs by ensuring sample integrity. Contact us to arrange a trial.
