Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC/SEC)

Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) is an analytical method for determining the molecular weight of polymers, proteins and small molecules. It is a versatile technique for determining molecular weight, molecular size, conformation, branching and structure.

Molecular weight measurements are important as they affect the characteristic physical properties of a polymer. Even subtle batch-to-batch molecular weight differences can cause significant differences in their end-use properties.

Our GPC instruments include the OMNISEC Gel Permeation/Size Exclusion Chromatography system, which is designed for the characterisation of natural and synthetic polymers, copolymers, proteins, nanoparticles and other macromolecules. It combines a pump, degasser, autosampler and column oven with four integrated detectors. These include a refractive index (RI) detector, a UV/Vis absorbance detector, a low angle light scattering (LALS) detector and a four-capillary differential intrinsic  viscosity detector.
