Battery Materials & Characterisation Roadshow 2026

ATA Scientific recently partnered with Malvern Panalytical to deliver the Battery Characterisation Roadshow across Australia, bringing together researchers and industry professionals from the battery supply chain in Melbourne (Monash University), Sydney (UNSW Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre) and Brisbane (QUT Energy Storage Research Group).

The one-day seminars showcased advanced analytical solutions supporting battery research and manufacturing, with presentations covering chemical analysis, mineralogy, particle size and shape, and surface area and porosity characterisation. Malvern Panalytical specialists and industry experts shared practical applications and real-world examples demonstrating how these techniques accelerate battery materials development and improve manufacturing performance.

Applications covered

  •  In-situ in-operando XRD of battery packs and cells
  • XAS setup on XRD platform for oxidation state analysis
  • Various technologies for particle size, shape, surface area porosity analysis

Highlights of the program included presentations on X-ray diffraction for monitoring structural changes in operating battery cells and packs, as well as X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy for oxidation state analysis using an XRD platform. Sessions also explored the critical role of particle size, particle shape, surface area and porosity measurements in optimising battery materials, electrode performance and product quality.
