Rheometers

Rheometers – How do they Compare?

Rheometers measure the characteristics of viscuous fluids. A rheometer is much like a viscometer, which provides the single quantity of viscosity to define a liquid. However, a rheometer also provides a set of parameters to describe fluids with more complex behaviour than a simple viscosity. These devices test by way of dynamic oscillation. They also measure normal force, stress jump or the effects of shear.

There are two different types of rheometers, rotational or shear rheometers that control the applied shear stress and extensional rheometers that apply extensional stress or strain.
